Step Into a Bamboo Robe

Author: Making-Home-Green, 04 30th, 2009

bathrobe2Whoever thinks that eco-friendly products have to be cumbersome or uncomfortable has obviously never used a bamboo bathrobe. These robes are made with bamboo fibers, which are both durable and soft. This makes them sturdy and sure to last a long time, which in turn ensures that the robe represents a very high value. And while bamboo robes sound like they’d somehow be stiff or scratchy, many people actually find the fibers to be softer than other fabrics.

Another distinct benefit is that some fabrics can cause irritation for people who suffer from extremely sensitive skin. But there have been instances where these people cite no irritation when wearing a bamboo bathrobe. Similar in make and craftsmanship to the terry cloth robe, these are growing increasingly common among high end hotels and other luxury institutions. In this way, they embody the new green products—earth friendly but very high quality and very usable.

Natural Health And Hygiene

Author: Making-Home-Green, 04 24th, 2009

naturalsoaphandmade-naturalhomeboutiqueWhile some people don’t realize it, salves, cremes, and lotions that are put onto the skin are absorbed into the body.  These skincare products often contain chemicals or toxins that would be dangerous to ingest, but they seep right into the skin and people don’t have a second thought about it.  It’s important to realize the dangers of exposure to the chemicals and toxins used in health and hygiene products.  Using natural soap, as well as natural skincare products is the path to perfect health.  Natural products don’t contain the dangerous chemicals and toxins that most other products contain, and it’s important to use natural products on the body.

When you use natural products, you’re also helping the environment.  Natural products are free from chemicals and toxins, and true natural products are also healthy to the environment because their ingredients were cultivated and harvested through natural and non-invasive processes.

Hand Made Soaps Keep Your Skin Feeling Soft

Hand Made Soap

Most people take their soap for granted and probably don’t know how the product is made.  It is a product everyone uses all day long – in your morning shower, throughout the day to wash your hands, and perhaps again at night while taking a warm bath to relax. While most people wouldn’t want to live without, it remains a product that does not get a lot of attention.

Did you know, for instance, that most of the soaps available in the store are actually detergents? Detergents are known to leave the skin feeling dry and itchy. The soaps that are mass produced and sold in stores often contain chemicals that can irritate the skin and can be harmful to humans. Handmade soaps, on the other hand, contain natural oils, such as olive oil. Another difference is that handmade soaps contain glycerin, which is a soap by-product that is gentle on even the most sensitive skins.

Bamboo Is More Absorbent!

One of the most redeeming qualities of bamboo fabric lies in its ability to absorb moisture.  Bamboo fiber has numerous small splits in it, and because of this, it absorbs water easier and dries out quicker.  This allows bamboo fabric to be up to twice or even three times more absorbent than cotton, and makes bamboo towels an ideal addition to the bathroom.  In addition to its ability to breathe, bamboo fabric is also just as soft and durable as cotton.  Bamboo fabric also comes from a safe and renewable resource in the form of bamboo trees.  Bamboo fabric is natural and organic, it contains no chemicals or toxins with the potential to rub off on the skin, making it safe for infants, children, and adults.

While some retailers have started to carry bamboo fabric products, most are still pressured by cotton makers to carry only their products.  But you can find a huge selection of bamboo apparel, bed sheets, and towels online.  In a few years though, it’s quite possible that bamboo will overtake cotton as the premier fabric.
